Pre-class Task

a. Post a picture of your creative work

'Insight' (2015)
By Rachel Ditton

Graphite pencil on paper

This is my HSC major work exploring the perception of my world, short-sightedness included, shown through the interplay of blurred and fine focus. The pencil captures seemingly insignificant moments that would otherwise fade into oblivion.

b. Post an image of a great piece of Architecture.

Nishi Building, Canberra
Molonglo Group (collaborated with over 60 architects and designers)

I recently visited this building and was blown away by its sustainable design and aesthetic. The entryway is fashioned with planks of recycled timber which hang from the walls and ceiling. The rooms themselves use no air-conditioning. Instead the building is designed to allow cool air to flow through the dual aspect apartments, the hot air drawn out by the central void within the building.

c. Post an original photograph of something beautiful

This is a photo I took of Sacré Cœur Cathedral in Paris. I happened to walk past it on the way to another attraction, but decided to stop and capture its beautiful exterior. This building is uniquely beautiful due to the architect's selection of travertine limestone which has created stark contrast - where the rain has not touched the building, the normally white stone has turned black over time.
